Top 12 Rules For Life Book Summary by Jordan Peterson - Tech4Task4A

"The 12 Rules of Life" by Jordan Patterson, I shared the first 6 rules of this book in a previous post. In today's post, I'm going to share with you the remaining six principles from this book.

So let's get started-

Rule 7: Pursue what is meaningful (not what is rewarding)

Rule 7 Pursuit It is traditionally easy to complete your education and then spend the rest of your life working for any company. But it's hard to live your life doing what you really want to do, what you find meaningful.

Because whenever you try to do something different from the traditional way, you will face a lot of criticism, a lot of obstacles. For example, if I talk about myself, my parents still tell me "Son, get a real job."

The main reason they tell me this is when someone asks them, "So what's your son doing right now?". They sadly have to reply "He's doing some work online".

Because no matter how big a YouTuber I become, the word YouTuber is not in the vocabulary of most people in our society. So in their eyes I am still unemployed.

But I know what I'm doing is absolutely right. Because I'm doing what I really want to do. This is the most meaningful work of my life. And it helps me to be happy all the time.

On the other hand, when I talk to my other engineer friends who are currently employed, they are not at all happy with their jobs.

Yes, but their parents are now very happy and according to society they are now "beautiful". So you have two ways to live your life -

  • 1. sacrifice your own happiness and live only to fulfill others' expectations of you, or
  • 2. make your own happiness the first priority in your life and then others.

to the joys of Now the choice is yours.

Rule 8: Tell the Truth—Or At Least

Don't Lie Rule 8 Truth Depending on the situation, you may have to lie to someone for a good reason.

But it is very important, to tell yourself the truth. Or at least don't lie to yourself. Someone is smoking 8 cigarettes a day, and yet, he is saying to himself, "Oh! I will be fine".

Someone is spending the whole day lying on the couch or bed. They are not even willing to try to walk 10-15 minutes daily. And then he himself is saying, "If a little exercise can help stay healthy, everyone will be healthy".

If he just starts speaking the truth to himself, it can completely change his life.

Rule 9: Assume that the person you're listening

to might know something that you don't compete in every aspect of life.

Friends are discussing where they should go on their next vacation. So one of them suggested, "Let's go to Manali". Another suggested, "No! Let's go to Goa".

Then suddenly the debate becomes a competition. No one is ready to listen to others. The person who is suggesting to go to Manali knows about some special attraction there.

The same may be the case with the one who advises to go to Goa. But no one wants to listen to others. We turn the discussion into a competition and forget its real purpose.

The main purpose of a discussion is to bring together all the different aspects of an issue that you may not know or miss. There is nothing to compete with.

However, even if you win, you won't get a prize. So always try to learn something new from discussion. It will be beneficial for you.

Rule 10: Be Precise in Your Speech Nowadays

the issue of being in the friend zone has significantly increased Rule 10 Truth. The main reason for this is that our speech is not correct.

The girl you spend your entire day chatting with online, may not know how you feel about her. We think she must be understanding. But in reality this is not always true.

By not being precise in our speech, we unnecessarily add complications to our lives. Suppose you go to the doctor.

Now if you don't tell him exactly what problems you are facing, can he help you with the right medicine?

Likewise, if you can't properly identify the problem you are currently facing, it will be very difficult for you to find a solution to that problem. So always keep your word true while talking to others as well as yourself.

Rule 11: Don't Disturb Kids While Skateboarding

This means that when your kids are trying an adventurous activity or trying to learn something new like skateboarding or riding a bicycle, just because As they may be injured by falling, do not do this.

Don't try to limit them. Because when they become adults and go outside, they will face more dangerous situations. So if you don't encourage your child to be brave, it will hurt them in the long run.

If they just fall and get hurt, you'll be there to take care of them. But in the future, you won't be there to help them.

Rule 12: Pet a cat when you meet one on the street

Rule 12 Pet means learning to appreciate the little things in life. We all have many problems in our life. And the energy we need to face these problems can be found by appreciating the little things in our lives. Let's say you're having a bad day.

Now if you pet a cat or a dog on the street, you will notice that you will suddenly feel better. Thus, if you start enjoying the small moments of your daily life, the problems of your life will gradually become less powerful.

There will be problems but their intensity will be significantly reduced.

So that you always remember the 12 rules of life. And if you want to know more about this topic in detail, you can buy the book "12".
